I know more than I ever cared to know about espers. Magic not so much. Does the name "Academy City" mean anything to you?

[Time to check on something, because as far as Accelerator is concerned, espers are only from Academy City, the crystal-clean shithole of a science haven just outside of Tokyo where he's spent most of his life being a regular lab rat. The idea of esper abilities occurring naturally is only a rumor often whispered about. And only a couple of weeks before the last day he remembers, he first learned of the other supernatural ability system known as magic, something that only normal talentless commoners can use and which they often resort to out of desperation. To him there are only these two ability systems. Anything else that was actually known publicly, Academy City would likely already be aware of.

And he doesn't believe others' claims here about multiple worlds. He hasn't seen enough to make him give it consideration. It's just a conspiracy theory.]

I got my powers from someone else. Where I'm from, we've got these things called Kings, and they can share their powers others. Some people are better at using them than others, and each King has different powers, but that's how it usually works.

Sounds like it'd have to be magic. Sharing your powers with others just isn't possible with espers. That shit's got genetic ties.

Yes and no.

What does that mean? Some are and some aren't?

No. It means they don't just start off with powers from birth. Certain conditions need to be met first for those powers to awaken. It's pretty fucking rare for that to happen naturally. But there are ways to set up those conditions on purpose.

Only one place has the technology to do that to people.
