[Sena's been thinking a lot lately. With school and everything else she's been doing, it's been easy to keep her mind off things but it's been a little slower for her lately and the thoughts began to creep in.

And so, she's begun to think about the one thing she doesn't have here: her family. So, she opens her computer and decides to ask a few questions.

It starts with her sitting there, hand making idle circles on the desk, her eyes seeming to find the pattern fascinating.]

If we're all dead, I wonder if we can turn into ghosts. [It's a weird thought and she doesn't think so but she wants this bad enough to ask.] Ghost can go back and see people, right? It's not like they have to be the creepy ghosts from stories or anything.

[ And look at who's a big snoop when it comes right down to it? This girl. The statement is valid, and Haruhi does have an answer, thankfully. So she'll just sit down on the desk right next to Sena's, and speak up, bored, almost as if she wasn't actually talking to anyone in particular. ]

I wonder if that idiotic programmer will let us go home again... It's been a while since I've seen Nishinomiya, and the last time we were sent home to see our homes, our families, everybody, well, they just couldn't see us.

[ Cue deep, overdramatic sigh. ]

I just wish I knew how it all worked.

[She hadn't expected an in-person response so she'll jump when she saw Haruhi, as if it's harder to admit she's sad about this when they're face to face.]

Programmer? Who was it? [She'll track him down.]

Ah, you heard that? Sorry, I was talking to myself.

[ Haruhi's used that as an excuse before, so it's only natural that she can use it again. ]

I don't know his name. We've never really met. He did speak during the last shadow attack, though.

[ Someone who was jumping around entertaining herself while balancing on the lines in the floor is Mana. When she sees Sena, she skips over with too long sleeves flapping a little like wings. ]

Oneechaaaan?

Didn't that happen once? Or didn't everyone go?

Then again, I guess it doesn't matter. It was no good anyway. Being a ghost fucking sucks, nobody is able to see you.

[ You just feel even more that you're not a part of that world anymore. ]

I, um... I think we did get to do that once. But I'm not sure if I'd want to see my world right now...

[ And there's Yukki. He was reading a book (Modern Mobiles, a book about cellphones, again), and he seemed to be staring page all day; a page showing internal components. ]

I kind of chose not to.

[No, all ghosts are definitely creepy! But Makoto doesn't say that because he thinks he understand what Sena's getting at here.]

I'm not sure if I would want to be a ghost, but... It would be nice to see everyone again.

[kirino had been in the same classroom as sena, getting her books and stuff and shoving them into her bag. she was attending class, yeah, but the entire time she had just been playing eroge on her phone.]

Ghosts don't exist.

[she was skeptical of ghosts, but since they're in the afterlife she believes in this place.]

[Why does Sena believe that when it was so obviously not true?]

Is he that weird guy who says he's a computer? [She moves closer. If Haruhi knows this, Sena will take the information.]

[And then some people just make her day brighter.]

Eh hehe. [Turning toward her, she stands up, running to greet her, arms held out, drool practically coming from her mouth.]

Too cute!

It's not good enough. [She humphs, though this time, it's not at him.] I don't just want to see Papa for a day.

...I didn't even get to see Mother.

[Now, she sighs.] Uggg...it's no good! We should be able to go back!

[Sena has a very bad habit of missing small details when it comes to other people. Once she's off the issue, it's possible she'll notice the book but right now, she just wants to go back.]

Eh, why would anybody not want to go back? Even if we didn't have friends back there, you had a family. [She assumes.]

We wouldn't be the creepy, ugly ghosts. Even if Papa didn't get to see me, I want to see him. [She doesn't even realize she's lying. Being able to see him without being acknowledged...that would hurt.]

[Good usage of class time, one Sena would approve of.]

Huh? If we're not ghosts, there's no way we're zombies. There's no such thing as a cute zombie.

[ ... who knows. ]

He didn't exactly say he was a computer. Though he was the one who was controlling the Angel Player from the main server, I think.

I don't think I'd want to be haunted by a cute ghost, either. [That could almost be considered teasing if he weren't completely serious!] But I wonder if it would really be okay that way.

[As much as he wanted to see everyone, he wasn't sure how he'd be able to deal with it, either. Saying it would be hard would be an understatement.]

[And there she was again, but instead talking about something Kotarou definitely didn't agree with...]

No, ghosts are pretty creepy no matter what.

[He abides by this.]

What brought this up?

If he's not a computer, then how can he be programmed?

..Who is the Angel Player anyway?

It's not like there's been a lot of cute ghosts.

Anyway, if you knew you were being haunted, it means they could see you. Papa wouldn't be afraid, not of me.

[Sena agreed. She had never, ever, in her life wanted to see a ghost. Still, sometimes, it was their only option.

But with him, it was okay to be honest, right? They had talked and sort of bonded on the loneliness issue. Besides, text was much easier.]

I miss Papa and Mother. If we can turn into ghosts, we can see them. [She even misses Stella.]

[ So Sena has a real family left behind - Kohaku can't really empathize with the feeling, but he supposes it makes things harder. He doesn't have pity or anything like that, but he supposes he can understand her situation. ]

I thought going back was kind of a nuisance... Maybe it'd have been different had we been able to communicate just any damn word, but I doubt it.

Won't seeing them just make you want to be alive again even more?

The same way any person who turned into an NPC is "programmed".

[ And indeed, those air quotes are there. ]

It's not a who, it's a what. It's a program created by the programmer to maintain the afterlife, basically. It wasn't there originally; it was created by someone who showed up here, just like us, and got sick of the afterlife because his girlfriend disappeared.

... Oi, Kashiwazaki, you realise that ghosts are gonna be scary no matter what, right? If your family sees you again, they'll just freak out since you're s'posed to be dead!

[ And that's even aside from the fact that the one time the whole ghost thing happened to him, he wasn't too pleased by it. ]

We're not zombies either! Ugh... I just... feel like we're not even on earth, so ghosts wouldn't apply.

That's a good thing. I'm not sure it would be worth seeing them if you just ended up scaring them.

[Unless that's... what someone wanted to do, but that's just mean! Of course, Makoto himself would probably be terrified no matter what the ghost's intentions were.]
