[Early in the afternoon, Otonashi can be found wandering around campus. Unlike his usual pointless I-Have-Nothing-Better-To-Do wandering though, this time he's looking for something. This fact is probably rather evident as well, considering how he's walking into classrooms, the library, the cafeteria... all while checking under their respective tables and desks, and all over the floor.

What's he looking for? Well you may just have to ask him and find out.]

[Eventually, his search takes him to the computer lab. He contemplates asking the network about whether or not they've seen his missing Something, but he figures he may as well not. After all, he already brought a lot of attention to that Something during his last post, ahem... And he figures with the NPCs and that weird guy acting strangely lately, keeping it off the network may be best.

...But anyway! There is at least one thing he could address, so he may as well do that while he's in here and taking a break from his searching. And so he leaves an audio recording.]

Hey, everyone. It looks like we got a lot of new people here recently, huh? Or at least it suddenly seems that way... But anyway, I guess I just wanted to go ahead and welcome you all here. I know it's not the best place to be in, all things considered, but yeah. I figure it's still worth saying.

[Or something... He just wants to try to be friendly and welcoming, okay!!! and not welcome people via "hi you're dead now watch me shoot this girl" like a certain someone here had done for him...]

Anyway, I'm Otonashi. I've been here for a while, longer than most of you, so if anyone needs help with anything, uh... feel free to ask me, alright? I know being here can be a little rough for some people, so I'd be happy to help.

...Actually no, one last thing. I know the girls and guys are both trying to put together their own sleepovers, but... Guys? I know how some of you can be, so really, take it from me:

Don't try to mess with Yuri, okay? Or her sleepover in general. Just trust me... [He doesn't even want to know what would happen if the dudes barged in on them...]

Like I said, it's basically just like talking to an NPC in a game. They can get along just fine without us.

So.. you've never really tried talking a lot to them either, Otonashi-san?

[ She's still not sure how to feel about it. Even if they're fine without them, it still sounds.. sad, somehow. ]

[He knows what she means. It is sad, but...

He shakes his head.] Not particularly, no. Yuri told me right off the bat about them when I arrived, so I never really had a reason to.

[ He didn't, huh. Even though he does look really nice.. then it really must be a weird idea she has of even talking to them. It discourages her more than just a little, and she sighs lightly to herself. ]

So there's nothing we can do with them or for them, huh..

[If Yuri hadn't pounded it into his head so much, honestly? He probably would have tried striking up a conversation with one. But he already knows there's essentially no point.]

Basically. I know it sounds really harsh, but yeah. They're like... really realistic robots, in a sense.

[...he can't help but imagine them as actual robots now and oh god..]

[ Now she's imagining it too, except she thinks that's what is really going on over here, so she's freaking out.. ]

Er-- W-wait, no... I mean they're like robots. They aren't actually robots though.

...I think. It's not like I dissected one or anything.

O.. of course you didn't, t.. that'd be... that'd be...!!

[ She's going to pass out at the thought of him dissecting one of the NPCs... that, or cry. It's about 50/50 right now. ]

[NO DON'T PASS OUT OR CRY... he hears the panic in her voice and quickly tries to drop it.]

Y-yeah, of course not! I would never do anything like that. But uh, anyway... So you're new here, right? What's your name?

[ Good distraction, Otonashi. It even seems to work. ]

.. Oh.. my name is Madoka, Madoka Kaname. I'm sorry for not introducing myself earlier, that was rude.. [ She bows her head a little as if it's to make up for the fact she can't bow fully since they're not meeting in person. ] It's nice to meet you.

It's fine, don't worry about it! But it's nice to meet you, Madoka. I already introduced myself before, but I guess it couldn't hurt to do it again, so... I'm Otonashi.

Ah, that's something else I was wondering! Do you.. um.. [ god, halfway through the question she realises how rude it is. DOES SHE BACKPEDAL OR NOT.. ] D-do you only have one name..? Not a first name and a last name..?

Oh, n-no, of course not. Otonashi's my last name. I'm just used to introducing myself with that. My first name is Yuzuru though.

Phew, I was a little worried that maybe your parents only gave you one, that'd be sad.. [ What a worry to have, huh. ]

Do you prefer Otonashi-san or Yuzuru-san then? I wouldn't want to be rude..!

N-no, they gave me both names... [This girl is adorable.]

But, uh... I don't mind either way. I'm used to people calling me Otonashi, but if you'd rather call me by my given name, that's fine too.

[Here in the afterlife, Kanade was the only one who called him that... but it couldn't hurt if someone else did too, could it?]
