Hello there, my name is Mami Tomoe. I'm a third year middle school student, and it looks like tomorrow will be my first day in class here.

I suppose I'll need to go and find some supplies for my first day at school? I never would have guessed I would need to looking for a notebook again after I died. Does anyone have any recommendations?

[ Mami's voice sounds a little cheery, though she's always been so very great at putting on a facade that hid her true feelings. ]

I hope I won't be too far behind the lessons, if I am I might have to ask someone to help tutor me so I can catch up.

[ On her first day Mami will be trying her best to find her classes, but she might need some helping making sure to go to the right room. Or perhaps she just looks lonely, sitting by herself as she eats, unable to convince herself to try and find someone to share lunch with. It might be obvious that there's something bothering her, perhaps the normalness of all she is suddenly hit with, after preparing herself for her own death.

In general though, she seems approachable, as she always has wanted to be, and wouldn't say no to a friendly face. ]

[ ... Oh. Now that's a voice she certainly never would mistake for another one-- Madoka already recognizes it at the "hello" before the name is even said, even though it's already been quite a while since she last saw Mami. But it really is her..

She's already been wondering why her friends - aside Homura - weren't here even though they were dead, but Madoka hoped they had gone to a better place. But at the same time she can't deny she's a little happy to see the girl.. ]

Mami-san..! M.. Mami-san, it's me..! [ But the emotion that's in her voice the most for now is surprise. ]

[ While Madoka may be surprised, or even happy to hear from Mami, all the girl's voice does to Mami is twist a knife in a wound still fresh in her heart. The things said between them before Mami took her own life, how Mami had cried in her friends arms, how Mami had left Madoka to take care of Walpurgisnacht...it's all so much to handle. ]

Kaname-san.. [ So instead of surprise, there's a deep pain in Mami's voice, one only someone like Madoka would ever hear. To others, she might almost sound pleasant, or cheerful. But that's not the case. ]

Is that really you, Kaname-san?

I don't mind tutoring you!

[ There's an energetic voice on the other end as she places her hands on her hips triumphantly. ]

As the student body vice president, it would be my pleasure!

[ --also she's on the top five when it comes to grades, so she actually is pretty smart. ]

Really? You would?

[ Something about the offer is a little calming for Mami. She's always dove into her homework back home, even as a magical girl, if only to be able to forget her situation for a moment or two. As strange as this afterlife is, she is happy that school is a part of it. ]

It's a pleasure to meet you then, vice president.

Well, yeah. It's been a while since I've actually tutored someone, but I'm perfect for the job!

[ She has many talents, that's for sure. ]

And there's no need for the "vice president" stuff! Just call me Haruhi. Or Suzumiya, whichever you prefer. Since my name's Suzumiya Haruhi.

I promise to work hard, I wouldn't want to waste your time.

[ She means it too. Though is Haruhi expects Mami to be more casual with her...well then she doesn't know Mami very well. ]

Suzumiya-san it is then. [ Mami still sounds happy, in a way though about that. ]

Okay, okay! So, Mami-chan, when and where do you want to meet? If you still need to get your supplies and need a tour, I don't mind.

I'm still trying to get my bearings here, would the front of the school be alright?

Perhaps, tomorrow morning? [ Mami really needs a night to recharge, and try to keep her smile from breaking in front of others. ]

That's fine.

[ She knows that it's difficult for people to adjust to the fact that they're dead, so she'll laugh awkwardly and smile a little. ]

What time in the morning? Before classes start?

That would be perfect, Suzumiya-san. Thank you for your help, I will make it up to you.

..Are there any types of dessert you happen to like best?

[ It's hard for Madoka to miss that tone in the other girl's voice. And it makes her feel pretty bad. Of course it's only understandable that someone would feel that way after dying, but even so.. she didn't want to see Mami sad. She never wanted to-- wasn't that why she promised to fight together with her? Someone as kind and great as Mami should never have to be alone.

So all she can offer is company. But maybe that can already be enough. ]

Hmm, it's really me! Where are you right now? I'll come right over to prove it..!

Ah... It's a pleasure to meet you, Mami! My name's Celica Mercury.

[Saying "welcome to the afterlife" seems odd so she leaves that out. Though this girl seems to be totally content with the situation... but ah well.]

School isn't really necessary to attend, but if you'd like, I could help you find supplies?

You don't have to do that, I'm fine..

[ Mami tries to lie, unsure of whether she could see Madoka just yet, alone, without breaking down again. She hates that part of her can't even stand the sight of her friend, but there is nothing she can do about it. ]

You have classes here too, right Kaname-san? Maybe we can get together for lunch?

[ It pains her to keep her distance from Madoka, someone she trust and cares very much for. But she doesn't know if she deserves Madoka's forgiveness.. ]

Oh, hello Mercury-san.

[ Always the polite one, Mami even bows a little, despite not being on a camera. ]

It would be a waste not to try to continue our education, even if we are in such a place, don't you think? [ And Mami is so used to forcing herself to attend class, even when she was a magical girl fighting to protect the people of her city, so it only makes sense to continue that tradition even in death. ..And it's better than sitting in her room alone. ]

Is there a school store, or a place to buy pens and notebooks and things?

Don't worry about it, I'm just super-talented!

[ She puffs her chest out triumphantly, placing her hands on her hips before calming down slightly, widening her grin by a hundred fold. ]

Hmm, well, I don't really hate anything in particular, but I guess a strawberry shortcake would be awesome...

Oh, are there other things you are good at besides your helpfulness, Suzumiya-san?

Strawberry shortcake. That happens to be one of my best recipes.

[Having spent most of her morning in the art club room, Mary ends up running late for lunch and quickly grabs herself a glass of burnt grapes to eat. The name didn't sound all that appealing, but the sweet smell more than made up for that! And do you know what goes with burnt grapes? Strawberry ice cream! ... Well, it probably goes well enough. What is a balanced lunch.

After grabbing her desserts, Mary wanders around the cafeteria looking for a place to sit down. A lot of the tables seem to be full with the late npc lunch rush, so Mary ends up wandering over to sit at Mami's table seeing as it's all but empty save for one person.]

Hi, I'm gonna sit here, okay? [She asks, even though she's already sat down-] I don't think there are many other free tables, but you have lots of space. [So surely Mami won't mind sharing her table.]

[ Figuring out the lunch ticket system was a bit difficult, especially since Mami ended up with something she didn't even want, leaving her sitting at her table, looking at her food with a bit of an empty expression. It's only been the first half of the day and already she can feel how exhausted she is. It's been a long time since Mami's felt anything like a normal human after all..

Though when she hears someone talking to her, and more surprising, sitting down across from her, that snaps her out of her thoughts. ]

Oh? Yes, that's fine, please, I don't mind. [ On one hand, Mami welcomes the company, happy to try and make a friend, on the other hand, she's not sure if she feels up to it.. ]

Well, I'm the lead singer of the afterlife's band! We haven't come up with a name yet. I can also cook, do any sport, play any instrument, oh, and I even write my own songs. Plus, I'm super smart and am one of the top five students in the class!

Oh, really? I know Ichigo-chan's really good at making strawberry-related stuff, so you'll have to beat her on tastiness!

Naming things can be very difficult, perhaps you could find a word in another language you like. I always prefer Italian myself, it's a beautiful language. [ Exactly the types of things Mami names in Italian...well she won't say just yet. ] You do sound like a good student.

Ichigo-chan? Another of your friends? [ Mami hasn't met many people yet, as to be expected. Though she is happy that she might be able to make friends with someone else who bakes, so she can share recipes.. ]

I guess we'll have to see how my cooking compares.

[ ...

She pauses for a moment. Madoka sure doesn't want to inconvenience Mami, but on the other hand, it's very obvious that she isn't fine. But asking her about that might just make her hurt more, so.. maybe it's okay to just wait for lunch, then..? ]

Um.. if it's what you want, then sure, Mami-san. [ She giggles, but it's a little awkwardly. ] I'd love to have lunch together with you.

[ It's really taking everything Mami has not to tell Madoka where she is, to ask to see her friend, so she can cry, and ask for forgiveness. Mami left Madoka and Homura, left them to deal with Walpurgisnacht on their own, because Mami couldn't deal with being at fault for their other friend's deaths. But still, she wishes for forgiveness despite knowing she doesn't deserve it. ]

I look forward to seeing you again, Kaname-san.. [ There's a bit of a crack in her voice, but Mami tries to ignore it. ]

Have you been taking care of yourself here? Have you made a lot of friends?

Hmm, o.. of course. [ She nods. Maybe it's better to just go along with the conversation and then somehow manage to steer it towards being able to see Mami since she's so shaken up.. maybe she can somehow get there subtly along the way. ] I've been doing my best, even here. And the people are really nice, so I don't think I really made friends, it's more like they made friends with me..

[ Madoka's self esteem still isn't really good, nope. Her dying at the moment she did really didn't do that any wonders. ]

But since they're so nice, I'm sure all of them would love to meet you too. You're really, really kind, after all.

[ Madoka has always been the sweetest girl Mami has ever met. Kyouko and Sayaka were both nice girls, when they wanted to be, but it was Madoka among them who really was the selfless one. ]

You're an easy person to make friends with, Kaname-san. I'm still...glad we are able to be friends.

[ No matter how much she knows she doesn't deserve to call her that, Mami can't stop herself. And things aren't made any easier when Mami hears that. Homura must have been right, Madoka doesn't remember Mami breaking down, and admitting her selfishness before she died. ]

I can't wait to meet them then. ..It's really strange, all of this. It almost feels like we get a second chance.

It's okay, they repeat after a while so you don't have to worry about missing anything!

[ This girl sounds too chipper for this afterlife. ]
