Hello there, my name is Mami Tomoe. I'm a third year middle school student, and it looks like tomorrow will be my first day in class here.

I suppose I'll need to go and find some supplies for my first day at school? I never would have guessed I would need to looking for a notebook again after I died. Does anyone have any recommendations?

[ Mami's voice sounds a little cheery, though she's always been so very great at putting on a facade that hid her true feelings. ]

I hope I won't be too far behind the lessons, if I am I might have to ask someone to help tutor me so I can catch up.

[ On her first day Mami will be trying her best to find her classes, but she might need some helping making sure to go to the right room. Or perhaps she just looks lonely, sitting by herself as she eats, unable to convince herself to try and find someone to share lunch with. It might be obvious that there's something bothering her, perhaps the normalness of all she is suddenly hit with, after preparing herself for her own death.

In general though, she seems approachable, as she always has wanted to be, and wouldn't say no to a friendly face. ]

I don't think so anyway.. Hehe, I'm pretty bad at the kinds of things they offer at this school anyway, since I started going to a private academy to become a patissiere when I was in middle school. We still had math and languages but I wasn't very good at them there either, hehe..

[ You can practically hear the "i'm scratching my head" in her voice right now from how sheepish she sounds. ]

I turned 17 just before I got here, so I'm a third year! [ At least she clearly made it that far.. ]

Nothing crazy? Do strange things happen here? [ Mami has some idea that this isn't all as peaceful as it seems, but then that's how she's been forced to think about things lately.. ]

A patissiere? Really? My favorite thing to do when I can is to bake. I'm still learning, but I really enjoy it.

[ She hasn't really thought about her future, not since the accident and her contract, so the idea of hearing about someone with such a firm goal is almost enough to make her feel a little jealous. ]

Ah, you're older than me. I'm still a third year in middle school..

[ Messily dropping upsetting news on Mami is NEVER a good idea. Luckily though, this isn't the type of mind breaking news that would really set her off, instead she's just stunned, trying to understand this all. ]

..Different worlds? I never knew..such a thing was even possible.

[ Though with the things she's seen, it isn't that hard to believe. ]

Is there a way to talk to this 'programmer'?

Not really. He's hidden and I haven't got a clue if he's even conscious of who he is. Finding him is kind of the big goal currently.

Heard his voice once, but he's said nothing but bullshit and then vanished again.

[ Kohaku hates the Programmer, he hates the NPCs, he hates the Afterlife and yet refuses to leave - contradictory story of his life. ]

As for the world-shit... You get used to it. Lots of people are from worlds that look like this school anyway, those like me who come from another damned place are more like an exception.

Well, yeah. Since next month's Valentine's Day, something weird might happen. But as long as it's not shadows, I'm okay with anything, really.

It's really great in that sense then, right? I mean.. of course I don't think it's right that any of us died because we shouldn't have [ she means other people moreso than herself though, but still ] but I'm still glad that everyone here didn't just disappear entirely or something like that.. I'd like to be able to see everyone smile just for a while longer.

[ A small giggle. ]

But.. Mami-san, you really shouldn't worry! I mean.. we really are friends, right? And there's no way I would ever want to stop being friends with you no matter what.

[ Especially not since Madoka feels it's practically her fault Mami died. If she would have contracted just a little bit earlier.. ]

[ Mami died because she decided she couldn't be alive, while Kyouko wasn't either, so Madoka's words hurt even more, despite her not meaning to. Though Mami doesn't blame the girl, she only blames herself, as usual. ]

I'm glad I will get to see you again as well, Kaname-san. [ Mami already left without saying goodbye to Madoka once, doing it again might even more difficult. ]

..Of course we're still friends. [ There's a tiny bit of hesitation there, don't mind Mami.. Enough that she ends up having to hold back from crying, sniffling once or twice. ] We'll always be friends.

Is it? I wonder if that's the best thing.. [ Mami wants to offer her help, but at the moment she's just a human, no special abilities or powers, and really her self esteem couldn't be any worse. ]

That's not something I would have expected...I thought this was simply the afterlife at first. I died, but I didn't expect anything like this..

..It's February next month?

[ The time change is going to be strange, but more worrisome, is that Mami will be alone..again, on Valentine's Day. ]

Shadows?

Yeah. It's January right now.

[ It's okay, Mami: you can join the Forever Alone Hearts club.. ]

Yeah, shadows. They're literal shadows that eat people up and take a person's soul.

[ Well, it's not like she's not used to getting candy from her underclassmen, but she's just never been able to connect with them, since becoming a magical girl. ]

..What? [ Mami is stunned, rightfully so. ] That's terrible... How do you stop them? My Gem isn't... [ She wants to explain, but holds herself back, unable to tell Haruhi about the whole magical girl thing. ]

[ It's the sniffling that does it. Maybe it's the fact that she gained a little more courage right before she died - even if her death did ruin a lot of that again - but she knows she can't just stand here while Mami is audibly hurting. ]

.... Mami-san. I'm sorry. I'm sure it's a really selfish thing to say, but even so.. I'd really, really like to see you right now. [ To help her. ] So would you let me..?

[ Mami tried not to cry, tried not to let Madoka even know anything is wrong, but it's hard. She remembers crying into the girl's arms before, before she decided that she was going to kill herself. She can only imagine how that must have hurt her friend, and how now, she shouldn't hurt Madoka ever again. ]

If you really want to.. [ She can't say no, not after a request like that. ] I don't have any tea or snacks though..

[ Because Mami wouldn't be Mami if she still didn't wish to make tea to have a friend over. ]

I don't think any of us did. Life didn't go easy on us, so what else can we expect than death being just as fucked up?

[ By now he just assumes that everyone coming here has lived a terrible life, because it seems to be kind of the basic premise of the place. ]

Oh! Well, you could get ingredients for food too, so you could still cook. I cook for myself rather often, actually... But it's just not totally necessary here, since food is freely available.

Do you enjoy cooking...?

[ It's all the sweets that keeps her looking young obviously. ]

Really? You look so mature! You remind me of Tennouji-san a little, actually.. [ There's a clear smile in her voice, though it sounds a little nostalgic. ] I really looked up to her!

If you bake though, you have to come bake with me so we can try each others' sweets!

I do. [ Mami smiles brightly. ] It's a good way to bring people together when you have make something they enjoy.

I plan to do a lot of it. I suddenly have a lot of free time now..

[ She's curious, but she'll let it slide for the time being; that's not important. ]

You can get rid of them by using weapons of any kind as long as you don't touch them for long periods of time.

[ Suddenly, it all makes so much sense why Homura didn't resent having her Soul Gem before...but now Mami is worried what the girl is doing to cleanse her gem. ]

Weapons? Are there weapons here?

Tennouji-san? [ It's a good thing that this is on voice, because the idea of being looked up to...is a sore subject for Mami. She doesn't want that anymore. ] Was she your senpai?

I'd like that. I have a lot of free time now, I might as well try spend it on things I enjoy.

[ It's almost a little reassuring that other people had terrible lives for Mami. But she had expected more of the afterlife. She wanted to see the people she had been forced to live on without.. ]

I suppose..it's still better than becoming ghosts, don't you think?

[ He's actually silent for a few seconds, thinking it over. ]

Yeah, probably. Ghosts don't get to interact with anybody, that must be damn boring.

[ And painful. Existing on in a sphere you may know but being unable to interact. ]

Ah... I agree! I've actually baked with Ichigo before, and cooked for Ling... And at home, I used to always have tea with my big sister and friend. Spending time with people over food is always really nice.

[And with that...!] So if you ever want a partner for that, I'd be happy to join you.

It seems like you and I will get along, Mercury-san. [ Tea is another of Mami's favorite things ever. She really could use a cup right now too. ]

Would you like to get together sometime soon, and make something? It's been a while since I've had the time to make a Lemon Meringue Pie from scratch.
